Job Description Department: Nursing Title: Radiotherapy Head Nurse
Reports To:
Area Supervisor, House supervisor.
Accountable to:
Area Supervisor, House supervisor, DON & ADON.
Job summary :
Provide direction and coordinates the nursing activities to Deliver high standards of clinical practice and skills in Radiotherapy, and Participate in a structured process for education of nurses, And insure smooth running of all process in radiotherapy to fulfill the hospital goals.
Responsibilities and duties:
· Insure attendance and the punctuality of nursing
staff, according to (...................) policy.
·
Insure accurate
assessment and reassessment of the patients.
· Make duties and assignments depending on staff knowledge and
skills, and, to provide a high standard of nursing service
within the hospital’s policy.
· Oversee the effective, efficient use of
radiotherapy department, by Accomplish routine safety checks and monitor
maintenance of all equipment in the unit.
· Insure safe therapeutic environment where the
patient receives radiation.
· Insure the safety of the co-workers and
visitors.
· Assist the physician in location the precise
site of the tumor.
· Ensure that all staff in the department use
dosimeters.
· Keep records of treatment plans for all
patients receiving radiation therapy.
· Train new nurses in the department and keep
training records in the department.
· Prepare a yearly training program with the
collaboration of Education Department Team.
· Investigates and resolves complaints and
counseling of staff and refers unusual problems to superior.
· Conducting staff meetings on a monthly basis
and keep written minutes.
· Create monthly staffing plans to ensure staffing levels and skill mix match patient care needs.
· Attend monthly leadership committees, and
inform employees concerning new issues.
· Do probationary and yearly performance
appraisal of all staff with the collaboration of nursing education team.
· Request needed supplies and equipments for unit, and ensure
downloading of the supplies to insure effective, efficient use of equipment and
materials.
· Helps with strategic planning by providing information, particularly resource planning.
Management Responsibilities:
·
Must know the objectives, vision and mission statement of (...................).
·
Must strive for excellence in health care delivery through
realization of the objectives at unit level.
·
Know and respect the lines of authority according to the
nursing organization structure.
·
Direct and supervise unit nurses effectively.
· Has the authority to delegate her responsibilities to the AHN when not on duty.
Clinical Governance:
·
Ensure accurate documentation of all patient events and
clinical interventions.
·
Audit patient care daily to ensure compliance with clinical
pathways.
·
Document and report all variances in expected clinical
outcomes.
· Monitor, investigate and document all sentinel \events as
part of Risk Management and Patient Safety Indicators (PSI’s).
·
Have knowledge of the following policies / protocols:
1.
Infection control
2.
Disaster plan.
3.
Code Blue policy.
4. Fire and safety (Evacuation plan).
Qualification:
Professional Requirements:
· Must be registered with the Egyptian Nurses Union or Nursing Council or Association in country of
origin.
· Must practice nursing within the scope of
practice specified by the Trade Union of Egypt and
International Council o0f Nurses (ICN).
Education:
·
BSN,
Technical Institute or Diploma Nurse
·
With 3-5
years experience
Experience:
·
At least
2-3 years experience as Head Nurse or assistant head nurse or charge nurse in
the same area of specialty.
Skills:
· Good English skill is important.
· Good communication skills and computer
literacy.
· Ability to liaise and co-ordinate effectively.
· Critical thinking skills are necessary.
Training:
·
Must
attend 50 hrs of mandatory in-service training in a contractual year.
·
Uphold
and support the mission statement and vision of (...................).
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
· Follow the appropriate communication channels according to the organizational chart
of the department organizational
chart.
·
Must be ready
to communicate effectively verbally and in
writing.
· Be able
to liaise with other members of the Heath Care Team and support services for
effective and efficient patient care.
·
Must be
innovative and have important thinking skills.
·
Always
promote a good relationship in the unit to maintain teamwork.
·
Act as
patient advocate and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
