Job Summary:
Assist in cardiac catheterization in addition to vascular and interventional procedures. Perform emergency procedures associated with catheterization procedure such as intra-aortic balloon (IAB) and temporary pacemaker insertion. Follow set up requirements and practices beneath Neath the course of a credentialed invasive. cardiologist or invasive radiologist.
Responsibilities and duties:
In Catheterization Unit:

Establish
pre-catheterization teaching plans.
·
Provide
a therapeutic environment to reduce anxiety.
·
Check physicians'
pre-Cath orders.
·
Complete
the pre-cardiac Cath check list (check consent).
·
Administer
the pre-medication for the catheterization as ordered.
·
Check
the financial clearance before beginning the procedure.
·
Follow
the protocol of conscious sedation policy.
·
Prepare
patient for contrast according to physicians' request.
·
Maintain
the theatre surgically clean including the table.
·
Check
the crash cart at beginning of each shift.
·
Supervise
the non-nursing staff in the unit.
·
Responsible
with the other service providers such as the technicians.
· Collaborate with the post cardiac Cath unit regarding post Cath management.
In post Cath unit:
·
Assess
patient's vital parameters including ECG and peripheral vascular status
according to post cardiac catheterization protocol.
·
Connect
patient to monitor if as advised by physician.
·
Monitor
fluid balance.
·
Monitor
according to post conscious sedation.
·
Document
all interventions in patient records.
· Continue patient education as indicated.
Clinical Governance:
·
Keeps
accurate documentation for all cases undergoing interventional cardiology
procedures.
· Follow
the protocols of (...................) in pre and post cardiac catheterization
management.
·
Keep
statistics of all interventional cardiology and the clinical outcomes.
·
Document
all variances in expected evidence bases clinical outcomes and report to the
physician.
· Report,
investigate and document all sentinel events according to Risk Management
Protocols.
·
Know the following protocols:
-
Disaster Policy.
-
Code blue policy.
-
Fire safety policy.
- Infection control policies.

Education:
·
BSN,
Technical institute of nursing or certification in nursing.
Experience :-
·
1 years’
experience in Catheterization unit is preferable.
Training:
·
Must be
registered with the Egyptian Syndicate or Nursing Council/Association of
country of origin.
·
Must
attend 50 hrs. of mandatory in-service training in a contractual year.
·
Uphold

BLS
certified.
