Reports to:

Cath. Lab Manager/Area Supervisor

Collaborates with:

Radiology Technologist and Cardio-vascular technologist.

Accountable to:

Cath. Lab Manager/Area Supervisor, CNO and ACNO

Job summary:

    Direct nursing services activities in the Cath lab, and works collaboratively with Cardiology multidisciplinary team to deliver a high quality of Cardiology Service, assign duties for staff nurses, and supervise the preparation and maintenance of Cath lab.

Responsibilities and duties:-

           ·      Insure attendance and the punctuality of nursing staff, according to (...................)               policy.

            ·      Provide a excessive trendy of nursing carrier in the hospital's policy.

            ·   Insure accurate assessment and reassessment of the patient's vital parameters,                     including ECG, and peripheral vascular status, pre and post cardia                                     catheterization according to (...................)

·       Make duties and assignments depending on staff knowledge and skills, to provide a high standard of nursing service within the hospital’s policy.

·       Receive, coordinate, and follow up physician’s pre-Cath orders.

          ·       Insure Completeness of the pre-cardiac Cath check list (check consent), lab tests,              and investigation required for the patient, to insure high quality of patient care and            efficiency of services.

          ·       Oversee the effective, efficient use of cardiac Cath lab equipment and materials,              by Accomplishment of routine safety checks, and check with the x-ray technician             for good function of the x ray machines, and monitor maintenance of equipment                in the unit.

·       Insure the correct application of sterilization for all equipment.

·  Assess learning needs of staff, establish pre-catheterization teaching plans in collaboration of education department, and Keep training records for each staff member.

         ·    Insure the monitoring of post Cath procedures of PCI patients to recognize vascular         related complications; including hematomas, retroperitoneal bleeding, dissection,              tamponade, perforation, stroke, vasovagal reaction, infection, contrast reaction.

·       Follow the protocol of conscious sedation policy.

·       Check the crash cart at beginning of each shift.

·       Collaborate with the post cardiac Cath unit regarding post Cath management.

·       Participate and insure Continues patient education as indicated.

          ·  Supervise the Documentation of all interventions in patient records, to insure a c                    curacy of medical record 

·     Request needed supplies and equipment for unit, and ensure downloading of the supplies to insure effective, efficient use of equipment and materials.

·  Participate in precise unit orientation of latest team of workers withinside the unit, and study new scientific practices for all nursing staff.

·    Investigates and resolves complaints and counseling of staff and refers unusual problems to superior.

·   Conducting team of workers conferences on a month-to-month foundation and preserve written minutes.

· Prepare month-to-month team of workers schedules, making sure staffing tiers and competencies blend meet affected person care needs.

·       Attend month-to-month management committees, and tell team of workers approximately new issues.

·    Co-operate with nursing to conduct an annual performance review and review of all staff.

·       Assess staff learning needs and plan ongoing assessment in collaboration with education.

·       Maintain unit records on clinical and other data and submit reports.

·       Support strategic planning by providing information, particularly resource planning.

Management Responsibilities:

·       Must know the objectives, vision and mission statement of (...................)

·  Must strive for excellence in health care delivery through realization of the objectives at unit level.

·   Know and respect the lines of authority according to the nursing organization structure.

·       Direct and supervise unit nurses effectively.

·       Has the authority to delegate her responsibilities to the CN when not on duty.

Clinical Governance:

·       Ensure accurate documentation of all patient events and clinical interventions.

·       Audit patient care daily to ensure compliance with clinical pathways.

·       Document and report all variances in expected clinical outcomes.

·      Monitor, investigate and document all sentinel \events as part of Risk Management and Patient Safety Indicators (PSI’s).

·       Have knowledge of the following policies / protocols:

1.    Infection control

2.    Disaster plan.

3.    Code Blue policy.

4.    Fire and safety (Evacuation plan).

Qualification:

Professional Requirements:

      ·  Must be registered with the Egyptian Nurses Union or Nursing Council or Association in country of origin.

    · Must be registered with the Egyptian Nurses Union or Nursing Council or Association and International Council o0f Nurses (ICN).

Education:

    ·       BSN, Technical Institute or Diploma Nurse

    ·       With 3-5 years’ experience

Experience:

     ·       At least 2-3 years’ experience as Head Nurse or assistant head nurse or charge nurse in the same area of specialty

Skills:

     ·       Good English skill is important.

     ·       Good communication skills and computer literacy.

     ·       Ability to liaise and co-ordinate effectively.

     ·       Critical thinking skills are necessary.

Training:

     ·       Must attend 50 hrs. of mandatory in-service training in a contractual year.

     ·       Uphold and support the mission statement and vision of (...................).

     ·       BLS certification, ACLS is preferred.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

     ·       Follow the correct communication channels according to the department's organizational chart.

     ·       Must be ready to communicate effectively each verbally and in writing.

     ·       Be able to liaise with other members of the Heath Care Team and support services for effective and efficient patient care.

     ·       Must be progressive and feature essential wondering skills.

     ·       Always promote a good relationship in the unit to maintain teamwork.

     ·       Act as patient advocate and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

 All of nursing basic competencies, in addition of the following specific competencies.

1-    Cath lab Emergencies.

2-    Cath lab Safety.

3-    Monitoring of Cath lab Sterility.

4-    Radiation safety.

5-    Duties of Cath lab Nurse.
