Reports to:

 OPD Head NurseAreaSupervisor, House Supervisor.

Accountable to:

OPD Head Nurse, Area Supervisor, House Supervisor, ADON & DON.

Job summary:

     Provide direction and coordinates the activities of cardiology clinic to maintain proper professional and administrative nursing procedures, and insure that the nursing objectives, policy and procedures, are being implemented.

Responsibilities and duties:

·       Ensure nurse attendance and punctuality according to hospital guidelines.

·     Make sure patients are screened on arrival according to specialty such as Normal 12 leads ECG, Thallium Stress Test, duplex or patient coming for cardiology consultation.

·       Ensure that consulting rooms are ready before the doctors arrive for consultation.

·       Ensure patient’s vital signs are taken prior to directing them to the consulting room.

·     Collaborate with the reception staff regarding patients with appointments for specific specialties like cardiology clinic or other procedures.

·      Make sure the patients’ files are collected on time from Medical Record office.

·   Deploy nurses to assist doctors and stay with patients until the doctor completes the consultation   (especially with female patients).                 

·  Make sure patients who needed assistance with wheel chair and porters etc., are promptly and appropriately assisted.

·       Request needed supplies and equipments for unit.

·       Supervise documentation of staff nurses, and insure accuracy of medical record 

·       Participate in department-specific orientation for new department employees and learn about new clinical practices for all nursing staff.    

·       Participate in monthly leadership committees and educate employees about new topics.

·       Hold monthly staff meetings and keep written minutes.

·       Create monthly staffing plans to ensure staffing levels and skill mix match patient care needs.

·    Conduct annual testing and apparent performance assessment of all staff in collaboration with nursing education team.

·      Assess learning needs of staff, and planning continuous evaluation in collaboration of education department, keep training records for each staff member.

·   Report to the biomedical and maintenance department any defective equipment and follow up until item is returned to unit.

·      Assist in strategic planning by providing information, particularly resource planning.

Management Responsibilities:

·       Must know the objectives, vision and mission statement of (...................).

·   Must strive for excellence in health care delivery through realization of the objectives at unit level.

·  Know and respect the lines of authority according to the nursing organization structure.

·     Direct and supervise unit nurses effectively.

·     Has the authority to delegate her responsibilities to the AHN when not on duty.

Clinical Governance:

·      Ensure accurate documentation of all patient events and clinical interventions.

·      Audit patient care daily to ensure compliance with clinical pathways.

·      Document and report all variances in expected clinical outcomes.

·   Monitor, investigate and document all sentinel \events as part of Risk Management and Patient Safety Indicators (PSI’s).

·       Have knowledge of the following policies / protocols:

1.    Infection control

2.    Disaster plan.

3.    Code Blue.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

     ·     Follow the correct communication channels according to the organizational chart.

     ·     Must have a pleasant disposition with clients.

     ·     Be able communicate clearly when giving or receiving instructions.

     ·     Demonstrate cultural and religious tolerance.

     ·    Cooperate with colleagues and other care givers at all times.

     ·    Maintain patient confidentiality.

Qualifications:
Professional Requirements:

    ·  Must be registered with the Egyptian Nurses Union or Nursing Council or Association in home country.

     ·    Must practice nursing within the scope of practice established by the Union of Egypt and           International Council o0f Nurses (ICN).

Education:

     ·       BSN, Technical Institute or Diploma Nurse

     ·       With 3-5 years experience

Experience:

     ·       At least 2-3  years experience as Head Nurse or assistant head nurse or charge nurse  in the same area of specialty

Skills:

     ·       Good English skill is important.

     ·       Good communication skills and computer literacy.

     ·       Ability to liaise and co-ordinate effectively.

     ·       Critical thinking skills are necessary.

Training:

     ·       Must attend 50 hrs of mandatory in-service training in a contractual year.

     ·       Uphold and support the mission statement and vision of (...................).

     ·       BLS certification, ACLS is preferred.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

     ·    Follow the proper communication channels in accordance with the organization of the Graphics            Department.

     ·     Must be ready to communicate effectively each orally and in writing.

   · Be able to communicate with other healthcare team members and support services for effective and efficient patient care.

     ·      Must be innovative and able to suppose critically.

     ·      Always encourage a good relationship in the unit to maintain teamwork.

     ·     Act as patient advocate and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Dress Code:

According to Hospital policy.

Required competencies:

          1-    Vital Signs.

          2-    12 Leads ECG.

          3-    Narcotic Handling.

          4-    Blood Glucose Monitoring.

          5-    Blood Extraction.

          6-    Blood Transfusion.

          7-    Arterial Puncture.

          8-    Obtaining Blood Sample From C-V Line.

          9-    I.V Cannulation.

10- Central Venous Pressure Readings.

11- Insertion of Nasogastic Tube

12- Enteral Feeding Via Nasogastic or Gastrostomy Tube.

13- Change Of Dressing.

14- Medication Administration.

15- Suction.

16- Collection of Urine Specimen From Catheter.
