Reports to:

Accountable to:

Head Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, ACNOCNO

Job Summary:

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU) nurses watch for invigorated babies who are deliveredpre -term(babes) or at- term babe who witness complications at the time of birth.. The NICU provides 24/7 critical care including both medical needs and basic daily care activities.

Responsibilities and duties:

1.    Accept the outgoing shift report at the end of the shift.

2.    Check all babies with the previous shift nurse.

          3.    Provide direct care to assigned babies.

          4.    Familiarize yourself with the operation of all technological devices Intensive care             units such as mechanical ventilators, cardio monitors, infusion pumps,                               Defibrillator...etc.

          5.    Offer specific nurturing interventions to target children comply with the provided            medical care plan.

6.    Execution of medical prescriptions for all assigned children; safe and Administer medications and treatments correctly.

7.    Ensure that any medical supplies used by the day/night shift are left behind
patients uploaded.

           8.    Monitor your environment take care of the child and guarantee the highest                         standards of hygiene in service.

           9.    performing or assisting others in performing appropriate aseptic techniques,                     Isolation procedures and infection control measures.

          10. Document the care in all associated patient records.

          11. Evaluate the care provided, including the patient's response.

12. Implementation of specific clinical pathways in collaboration with Department of Education to manage certain conditions within the unit.

13. Know the following protocols:

14. Disaster Policy.

-        Code blue policy.

-        Fire safety policy.

-        Infection control policies.

Educational Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the head nurse and the clinic Nurse:

1.      Help identify relevant training needs into the clinical field.

2.      Participate in the clinical induction of all new nurse’s e Support staff.

3.      Develop leadership skills to do so an effective model.

4.      Take responsibility for your own learning e Need for development.

5.      Attend all required in-services training programs.

6.      Stay current with mandatory training such as: Basic Life Support (BLS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and PALS are preferable.

Communication and Interpersonal skills:

1.    Hunt down appropriate communication channels according to the organization of the service Graphics.

2.    Must be able to effectively communicate writing and in verbally.

3.    Maintain professional appearance and dress code.

4.    Wear Identification badge when working.

5.    Follow the no-show or late arrival policy.

6.    Must be innovative and critical Skills.

7.    Always promote good rapport in the unit to maintain teamwork.

8.    Be able to liaise with other members of the Health Care Team and support services for effective and efficient patient care.

9.    Must be innovative and able to think critically.

10. Act as patient advocate and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications :

 Education:

·         B.S.N or Technical Nursing Institute.

Experience :-

         ·       1 years experience in NICU is preferable.

Training :-

1.    Must be registered mandatory.

2.    BLS certification is mandatory.

3.    PALS &ACLS is preferred.

Dress Code:

  • According to (......) Policy.

        1-    Baby Bath.

         2-    Care of baby in Incubator.

         3-    Care of Baby on Radiant Warmer.

         4-    Discharge Process.

          5-    Blood collection through Heel Prick.

          6-    Assisting for Lumbar Puncture.

          7-    Newborn eye care (prophylaxis of ophthalmic neonatorum).

          8-    Managing Babies Born after PROM.

          9-    Assisting for Intubation.

10-  Admission in NICU.

11-  Assisting in weaning infant from ventilator.

12-  Admission of New Born to Nursery from Labor room.

13-  Breast Feeding.

14-  Blood sampling, Venipuncture in Neonates.

15-  Care of Baby under Phototherapy.

16-  Initial Assessment of the New Born using the APGAR scoring System.

17-  Positioning of Baby in Incubator and Cot.

18-  Thermoregulation (Control of Temperature).

19-  Bottle Feeding.

20-  Neonatal Resuscitation.

21-  Head Circumference Measurement.

22-  Chest Circumference Measurement.

23-  Incubator Care.

24-  Measuring Heart Rate.

25-  Measuring Respiration.

    26- Restraining.
