Reports to:

Area Supervisor, House supervisor.

Accountable to:

Area Supervisor, House supervisor, ADON and DON.

Job summary:

      Provide direction and coordinates the nursing activities to Deliver high standards of clinical practice and skills in nuclear medicine department, And insure smooth running of all process to fulfill the hospital goals.

Responsibilities and duties:

·       Ensure room is clean and maintain enough consumables for all procedures.

·       Ensure inpatient/outpatient appointment is kept as scheduled.

·   Ensure that patient had understood the procedure and gave written consent as required.

·       Insert I.V cannula following aseptic technique.

·       Insure that all investigation required are available.

·       Give prescribed tracers through I.V line and prepare patient for imaging.

·   Collaborate with the reception staff regarding patients with appointments for specific specialties like cardiology clinic or other procedures.

·       Make sure the patients’ files are collected on time from Medical Record office.

·   Make sure patients who need assistance with wheel chair and porters etc are promptly and appropriately assisted.

·      Request needed supplies and equipments for unit, and ensure downloading of the supplies to insure effective, efficient use of equipment and materials.

·       Assist in strategic planning by providing information, particularly resource planning.

·       Collaborate with cashier in ensuring that procedure fees are correctly charged.

·   Monitor the patient flow through the waiting area and ensure proper sorting criteria.

·    Do performance appraisals for probation period and annual performance appraisals.

·    Monitor the patient referral process (to ER, OR other specialties) and document this.

·       Make sure files are returned to Medical Records before closing for the day.

·       Be aware of the ambulance policy.

·       May be deployed in other departments if the need arises.

Management Responsibilities:

·     Be aware of the ambulance policy. Must know the objectives, vision and mission statement of (......).

·  Must strive for excellence in health care delivery through realization of the objectives at unit level.

·   Know and respect the lines of authority according to the nursing organization structure.

·       Direct and supervise unit nurses effectively.

·       Has the authority to delegate her responsibilities to the AHN when not on duty.

Clinical Governance:

·       Ensure accurate documentation of all patient events and clinical interventions.

·       Audit patient care daily to ensure compliance with clinical pathways.

·       Document and report all variances in expected clinical outcomes.

·   Monitor, investigate and document all sentinel \events as part of Risk Management and Patient Safety Indicators (PSI’s).

·       Have knowledge of the following policies / protocols:

1.    Infection control

2.    Disaster plan.

3.    Code Blue policy.

4.    Fire and safety (Evacuation plan).

Professional  Development:

·       Ensure compulsory educational lectures are attended by self and staff in the unit (50 hrs of training).

·       Attend management in-service lectures.

·  Maintain current professional registration with the Egyptian Syndicate and/or registration body of country of origin.

·   Practice nursing according to the scope of practice defined by the Egyptian Syndicate and International Council of Nursing

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

   ·       Follow the correct communication channels according to the organizational chart.

   ·       Must have a pleasant disposition with clients.

   ·       Be able communicate clearly when giving or receiving instructions.

   ·       Demonstrate cultural and religious tolerance.

   ·       Cooperate with colleagues and other care givers at all times.

   ·       Maintain patient confidentiality.

Qualification :

 Professional Requirements:

   ·  Must be registered with the Union, Council or Association of Egyptian Nurses in country of origin.

     ·     Must practice nursing within the scope specified by Egypt Syndicate and International Council of Nurses (ICN).

Education:

     ·     BSN, Technical Institute or Diploma Nurse

     ·     With 3-5 years experience

Experience:

     ·    At least 2-3 years experience as Head Nurse or assistant head nurse or charge nurse in the same area of specialty.

Skills:

     ·       Good English skill is important.

     ·       Good communication skills and computer literacy.

     ·       Ability to liaise and co-ordinate effectively.

     ·       Critical thinking skills are necessary.  

Training:

     ·    Must attend 50 hrs of mandatory in-service training in a contractual year.

     ·    Uphold and support the mission statement and vision of (......).

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

     ·   Follow the proper channels of communication according to the department                        organizational chart.

      ·       Should be communicate effectively by verbally and in writing.

      ·       Be able to liaise with other members of the Heath Care Team and support services             for effective and efficient patient care.

      ·      Should be innovative and have a critical thinking skills.

      ·      Always promote good relationships within the unit to maintain teamwork.

      ·     Act as patient advocate and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
