Job Description Department: Nursing Title: Charge Nurse

Job summary:
Directs nursing activities throughout the shift and works with the nursing team to
provide quality nursing service. Assign
tasks for nursing staff; and monitoring performance and ensuring the smooth running of the process related to patient care.
Responsibilities and duties:
1-
Make daily shift Endorsement, receive patient, unit,
equipment from the other shift.
2- Receive, coordinate and track all orders, diagnostic procedures,
laboratory tests and examinations required by the patient to ensure the high quality of patient care and the efficiency of services.
3-
Participate in making of nurse's duties and assignments with
proper ratio depending on acuity level of the patient, and staff knowledge and
skills, and according to (...................) policy,
to provide a high level of nursing services within hospital guidelines.
4- Receive narcotics from the head nurse on
the other shift and ensure accurate and safe handling.
5- Participate in daily patient rounds with assigned staff to ensure staff are
implementing all required nursing tasks and procedures and delivering care to patients in accordance with the Doctor's
instructions followed. Instructions.
6- Supervise the preparation and administration of medicines and ensure the safe protection of medicines
informed.
7- Supervise documentation of staff nurses, and
insure that all documentations are accurate, and completed according to (...................)
policy,
8- Coordinate admission, transfer
patient in and out of ward with other departments, to Ensure continuity of care.
9- Accompany doctor on visits and keep
informed of special patient-related
orders.
10- Verifies all required consents
(Anesthesia Checklist, Preoperative Checklist) are available and completed for patients.
11- Demonstrate advanced nursing through the
application of evidence-based nursing practices.
12-
Investigates and resolves complaints and escalates
any issues to the Head Nurse.
13- Ongoing watching of customary} of patient care.
14- Make sure all medical supplies and procedures
used by night /day shift have been charged to patients.
15- Participate in department-specific orientation for new department staff and learn new clinical practices to
ensure safe practice for to ensure all caregivers.
16- Planning and preparing patient education
sessions in collaboration with HN and the Education Team.
17- Request needed supplies and equipment for unit,
and Ensure staff uploads the supplies correctly to insure effective, efficient
use of equipment and materials.
Management Responsibilities:
· Assume responsibility for day to day management
in the absence of the Head Nurse.
· Ensure all employees work according standard policies and procedure.

Qualification :
Professional Requirements:
1- Must be registered with the Egyptian Nurses Union or Nursing Council or Association in home country.
2- Must practice nursing within the scope established by the Egyptian Union and the International Council of Nurses (ICN).
Education:
1- BSN, Technical Institute or Diploma Nurse
2- With 3-5 years’ experience
Experience:
· At least 2-3 years’ experience staff nurse or
charge nurse in the same area of specialty
Skills:
·
Good
English skills are important.
·
Good
communication skills and computer literacy.
·
Ability
to liaise and co-ordinate effectively.
·
Critical
thinking skills are necessary.
Training:
· Must attend 50 hrs. of mandatory in-service
training in a contractual year.
· BLS certified, ACLS is preferred.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: -
1- Follow the appropriate communication channels according to the department's organizational chart.
2- Must be ready to communicate effectively each verbally and in writing.
3- Be able to liaise with other members of the
Heath Care Team and support services for effective and efficient patient care.
4- Must be innovative and able to assume critically.
5- Always foster a good relationship in unity to maintain teamwork.
6- Act as patient advocate and maintain patient
confidentiality at all times.
