Reports To: 

Chief nursing officer (CNO)

Collaborates with:

infection Control, Education Dept., HR and other HOD’s

Accountable To :

CNO and CEO

Position Summary:

· The primary purpose of the job position is to assist the chief nursing officer in managing overall operation of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current national standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern this facility, and as may be directed by the medical director and the CEO, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

·   To effectively plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services under the supervision of the CNO.

·  To coordinate patient care activities in collaboration with other nursing supervisors.

· To lead and co-ordinate a range of activities that promote excellence in nursing practice.

·    To deputies in the absence of the CNO.

Responsibilities and duties:

·       Meet daily with CNO to discuss day to day nursing management issues.

·       Assists the CNO in all duties and acts up in her absence or as requested.

·       Attend Departmental meetings chaired by CNO.

·       Assist in developing strategic plans and financial plans.

·       Set standards for work, nursing standards and processes.

·   Communicates the objectives of (…………….) to lower level managers/Head Nurses.

·       Follow up on plans at functional level.

·       Prepare and review nursing policies and procedures.  

·       Monitor the performance of Head Nurse and All Nursing Supervisors.

·       Delegates duties to nursing staff according to their level of knowledge, skills and abilities and provides appropriate support and guidance.

· Integrates nursing practice modalities with the collaboration of Education Department.

·  Participates in Nursing Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives, in-service education programs, unit/Floor meetings, and committee functions as assigned.

·       Acts as a link between the Nursing Supervisors and chief nursing officer.

·       Maintains the records of nursing personnel (sick leave, duty roster, leave plans).

·       Reviews nursing rosters for all units and floors of the hospital before issuing.

·  Collects the monthly activity reports, statistical data and annual reports and forwards them to CNO.

·       Monitors the practice of nursing in accordance with professional values and moral principles and maintains confidentiality as appropriate.

·       Assist in Staff counseling sessions and performance appraisals.

·       Uphold the vision of (………………...).

 

Clinical Governance:

·       Do random concurrent audits to monitor patient care.

·       Institute corrective action if warranted according to results of the audit.

·       Do clinical rounds regularly on the areas to ensure proper control and follow up.

·       Attend meetings on behalf of the CNO:

1.    HOD meeting (SMC).

2.    Infection Control Committee.

3.    Ethics Committee.

4.    Code Blue Committee.

5.    Safety and Disaster Committee.

6.    Pharmacy and Therapeutics.

7.    Leadership committee.

8.    Blood utilization committee

9.    Quality committee

10. Mortality and mortality meeting

11. Medical Record committee

12. Medication error meeting

13. Steering Committee

14. Governance committee


Competencies:

Education:

·       BSN or Internationally Accredited Nursing Science Qualification. BSN can be replaced by 10 years’ experience in senior managerial position.

·       Post graduate qualification in Nursing/Health Services Management preferable.

Experience:

·   At least 5-10 years’ experience in a senior management position in a Private Health Care Institution.

·   Must be registered with registration body in country of origin and Egyptian Syndicate.

 

Communication and Interpersonal skills:

·  Follow the correct communication channels according to Nursing Organizational Chart.

·   Administrative skills to effectively manage and direct staff and services.

· Have the ability to liaise and collaborate effectively with other HOD’s to integrate care plans.

·       Must have good conflict resolution skills.

·       Always keep an objective approach and avoid bias.

·       Have an understanding and tolerance of cultural and religious differences.

·       Have a good command of English, some knowledge of Arabic an advantage.

·       Must possess good critical thinking skills.

·       Be innovative and promote teamwork within the staff.

 

Quality System Responsibilities:

·  Comply with the requirements of the Quality Management System.

·Be proactive in identifying and reporting non-conformities / opportunities for improvement.

Dress Code:

Acceptable formal uniform according to (………….) policy.
