Job Description for CNO

Reports To: 

CEO

Collaborates with:  

COO, Medical Director, All HOD’s .

Job Summary:

Responsibilities and duties:

·       Provide and maintain optimum standards of evidence based patient care.

·       Direct and monitor all nursing department activities.

·       Review all nursing policies and procedures.

·       Review all CNE and In-service training plans to meet OBE.

·       Recruit, interview and choose nurses together with the Education Manager.

·       Process all nursing department documentation.

·       Review all overtime claims.

·       Investigate each incident related to the professional conduct of nurses.

·       Create strategic plans for the department, including budget.

·       Please check the maintenance database and update it occasionally.

·       Do clinical rounds on regular basis, as well as environmental surveys.

·       Meet CEO weekly and submit monthly reports to CEO.

·       Meet with Head Nurses and supervisors (at least twice a month).

·       Address affected person lawsuits with help of the Guest Relations Team.

·       Plan and approve annual leave for the entire nursing department.

Clinical Governance:

·       Do regular patient care audits to assess the health care delivery system.

·       Monitor, investigate all sentinel events.

·       Review all clinical pathways regularly to meet patient care requirements and objectives of evidence bases health care.

·       Monitor morbidity and mortality statistics.

Committees and Meetings:

·       HOD meeting (weekly).

·       Infection Control Committee.

·       Ethics Committee.

·       Code Blue Committee.

·       Disaster Committee.

·       Pharmacy and Therapeutics.

·       Head Nurse/Supervisor.

  ·  Theatre Users Committee  


Authorities:

·    Directly responsible for executing disciplinary action to all nursing staff categories.

·       Delegates duties and certain responsibilities to nurse managers and supervisors.

·       Prepare and review the nursing organizational chart.

Professional Requirements:

·       Must be registered with the Egyptian Syndicate of Nurses or Nursing Council or Association in country of origin.

·       Must practice nursing within the scope of practice as determined by the Egyptian Syndicate and International Council o0f Nurses (ICN).

Educational Requirement:

·       Bachelor of Nursing Science.

·       Post graduate qualification in Nursing Management/Administration.

·       Masters Degree in Administration/Leadership (or other nursing discipline) an advantage.

Experience Requirements:

·       10-15 years experience, 5 of these in a senior management position.

·       Must have worked in private hospital with at least 100 beds or more.

·       Middle East experience an advantage.

·       ISO 9000 / Joint Commission experience an advantage.

Skills:

·       Good command of English is important.

·       Good communication skills and computer literacy.

·       Ability to liaise and co-ordinate effectively.

·       Critical thinking skills are necessary.

Quality System Responsibilities:

·       Comply with the wants of the standard Management System.

·       Be proactive in identifying and reporting nonconformities/opportunities for improvement.

Dress Code:

Acceptable formal uniform according to ..... policy.
