Job Summary:· The Wound care nurse is responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating the nursing care provided to a select group of patients for wound, pressure ulcers and ostomy care within the context of the nursing services in (Hospital Name) · The Wound care nurse provides a range of clinical nursing services to acute and chronic wound care patients, so patient needs are met, best practice guidelines are followed, and excellence in nursing practice is promoted. To provide education, guidance and leadership to peers and works in a collaborative relationship with colleagues and members of related health disciplines within the hospital. Responsibilities and duties:· Maintain
a current knowledge base of advanced wound care practices and wound care Products. · Uses
a systemic process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, and implementation and
evaluation of patient care according to the hospital standards. · Receives
referrals and consults for wound assessments, prioritizes cases and organizes
care. · Coordinates
and supports the continuity of care for patients and families through a
comprehensive patient Family education program. · Provides
clinical leadership and direction to the patient, family, hospital and
continuing care nurses, especially in complex wound situations. · Demonstrates
ability to work independently as well as a member of the wound management
team. · To reassess all patients those are with low
Braden score less than 14. · Follow-up the implementation of the Pressure
ulcer protocol for all those patients. · Measure the staff compliance with the PU
protocol. · Daily reevaluation of the skin condition of
all high risk patients. · Documenting each incident of pressure ulcer
whether it is hospital or home acquired. · To review patients referred, assess PU and
recommend treatment and appropriate dressing needed. · To evaluate the progress of treatment and
wound healing as appropriate and document on the progress notes. · To provide teaching to the patients,
relatives and patient care givers on care required after discharge. · To teach, observe and supervise nursing staff
that proper technique on PU dressing is being done. · To
provide an in-service training to all nursing staff on prevention and care of
pressure ulcers. · To investigate in all Hospital acquired
Pressure ulcers. · Establish special clinical pathways with the
collaboration of Education Department to manage specific conditions in the
unit. ·
Know the following protocols: -
Wound care protocol. -
Pressure ulcer protocol. -
Disaster Policy. -
Code blue policy. -
Fire safety policy. - Infection control policies. Educational Responsibilities:Under the direction of the education team the
nurse will: o
Contribute
to the identity of schooling wishes pertinent to the medical area. o
Participate
withinside the medical induction of all new nursing and aid staff. o
Develop
leadership ability in order to act as an effective role model. o
Assume
responsibility for own learning and development needs. o
Attend
all required in-services training programs. o Keep up to date with mandatory training such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) if possible. Communication and Interpersonal skills:·
Follow the right channels of communique in line with the branch organizational chart. ·
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in
writing. o
Maintain
professional appearance and dress code. o
Wear
Identification badge when working. o
Comply
with guidelines and protocols. ·
Must be progressive and feature vital questioning skills. ·
Always promote good rapport in the unit to maintain
teamwork. |
Qualifications : Education: ·
B.S.N. Experience :- ·
3 years’
experience as wound care nurse or Critical Care nurse is preferred. Training :- ·
Must
be registered with the Egyptian Syndicate of Nurses and / or expert registration frame of origin. ·
5o
hours of training per annum mandatory. ·
BLS certification
is mandatory &ACLS is preferred. Dress Code:
